West Kingdom Needleworker's Guild Medallion

This medallion was commissioned by Catherine Lorraine of Stonegate Manor when she was Guild Minister of the West Kingdom Needleworkers Guild.  The medallion is regalia, and will be passed on to future Guild Ministers.  The gold Viking chain was made by Theiadora Groves.

The embroidery was done on linen lined with muslin.  I used 15/0 glass beads for the green background and 24K gold beads in 15/0 for the needle.  Because the beads are so small, I was only able to do the embroidery in the medieval method of laying and couching on the beads.  I started with the gold needle, and then worked outward filling in the background.

Once the embroidery was completed, I applied glue to the back of the medallion and let it dry overnight.  Next, I applied half of a cloak clasp to the back of the medallion, since I knew she wanted it to hang on a chain.  I then cut a thin, soft leather roundel for the back, stitched the leather to the medallion, and secured it with two rows of gold beads.

OF FURTHER NOTE:

Before the medallion was handed down to Catherine Lorraine, I displayed it at Oertha's Summer Coronet Arts and Sciences display.  The medallion won a jewelry competition!
